Rayan, known as Captain Rayan, is a UAV systems developer and drone operations specialist focused on public safety, defence support, and aerospace education. A young innovator recognized by industry partners, he began working with flight systems at the age of six and has since accumulated over thirteen years of practical experience in aerial robotics and unmanned aerial systems. He has led real-world field deployments, established a pioneering police drone unit, and trained hundreds of students in applied UAV technology. Rayan has also contributed to indigenously developed defence-related technology maintained under strict confidentiality, and has received over 100 national and international awards in aerial robotics and UAV competitions.

Rayan is a first-year Aeronautical Engineering student and a Test Pilot with Space Kidz India, recognized for his contribution to one of the organization’s most notable projects featured on the TED stage. In the TED Talk, “Kalamsat – Space Kidz India,” Rayan and his team share their journey of building and launching one of the world’s lightest satellites, reflecting the innovation, teamwork, and passion behind the mission.

At the age of 17, he was recognised as a Young Scientist in association with Kalam SAT after winning multiple IIT-level competitions. The recognition was awarded for his consistent performance and hands-on expertise in aircraft design, manufacturing, and flight, developed through building and flying aircraft from scratch rather than relying solely on theory.

SKYsentinel

In his first year of college, he secured a USD 500$ grant to develop SKYSentinel, a drone-based innovation project. The proposal became the only university entry selected for Phase II, competing alongside IIT teams, despite the program being intended for final-year students. With special approval from La Trobe University, he presented a state-of-the-art drone technology concept designed for smart city infrastructure in Australia, marking an early milestone in his innovation journey.

I engineered a highly detailed scaled model of ShakthiSAT, crafted with precision and accuracy. This custom-built miniature was formally presented to the President of India,.

This program was led by SKI Star Foundation in collaboration with QuantumSlate to empower girls under the Department of Social Defence in Chennai with meaningful drone technology skills. At the end of their training, the students proudly demonstrated their flying abilities before the Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, who was deeply moved by their confidence, determination, and talent.
